Lots of great feedback and some new interest for involvement next year too! If you saw us there and had a chat we would love to hear from you so we can contact you for new shows and events or to just get fit!

Feast Picnic Day: Our second last event for 2007 was informal flagging at the Picnic Day on Sunday 25th Nov at the notorious Veale Gardens, North Terrace, Adelaide! We had the opportunity to do some impromptu tutorials with people in the dance area on this day. What a busy perfect day flagging in the sun! If you were one of those people and want to join us or just learn more then contact us!

KWP Christmas Party at Mars Bar

Second Tie Dye Day

Once again Flagmania indulged in a fabulous tie dye day, this time at Nicks place. Seven of us mixed, poured, squirted and dabbed our way to a new set of flags, some with good results, others not so good. Overall a good day getting experince in this new craft. Another weekend is planned for one more set each.
We all enjoyed a BBQ cooked by Troy at the end.
Following weeks will be more sewing up the new flag sets. BIG job.
Also to do is screen printing our new singlets!

FLAGMANIA DESIGNS is launched in Second Life!

Flagmania has launched a chain of 3 shops selling virtual dance flags and other clubber accessories within the virtual world, Second Life.
The shop is called FLAGMANIA DESIGNS and can be found inside Second Life HERE.:
It took Nick 3 months to establish the chain including time to research how to build it. Theres's been a lot of traffic to the shops which has led to a lot of interest in flagging in real life (RL), which is the main goal of the project.
Inside the shop, visitors can click on a laptop which sends people to the Flagmania.org website, which in turn explains and illustrates what flagging is about and how to do it in RL, raising awareness about flagging in general.
Virtual flaggers can flag in one of hundreds of clubs. Many raves and dances are held regularly in Second Life (SL). Yes they use RL DJ's, so turn up your speakers!
Nick has met people from all over the world, some of whom have either flagged or seen flagging performed. Many have been exposed to flagging for the first time through SL, now intending to try it in RL.
The shop pays for Nicks involvement in SL. There is a real, tradeable currency in SL called the Linden Dollar. $1US = around $250L. We hope to see you 'inworld' soon!

First ever flagger in Second Life

Nick has created a 'Second Life' look-alike avatar, Nixatnite Winkler. Nick has become the first real world flagger known to ever 'flag' inside Second Life. What IS Second Life?
A regular podium, dance floor, and speaker performer at the 'inworld' gay 'Sky Club', Nixatnite Winkler has brought Nick's real life (RL) tie dyed flags to life in a virtual space.
Other inworld performers emit rays or are encircled in orbs or light but this is a first for the traditional flagging look.
Improvements in flow and draping of the flags and various choreographed moves are planned but the flags they are a-twirling and they are being noticed!

So add Nixatnite Winkler to your friends list. You cant miss his ever changing, whacky headgear, clothes and various flags of all sizes and shapes and colours. He may even share some flags with you so you too can enjoy the rush!
Check out and download SecondLife for free!

See you inworld!

Flagmania directions for 2007...

2007 has been a slow start for Flagmania but in the waiting a lot has been established in the break for the new year.
I met up with http://www.flaggercentral.com/xavier from San Francisco in Sydney over NYE. This was a significant connection for flagging in Australia, as I was given a clearer picture of the history of flagging and was generously graced with a gift of 5 beautiful handmade flags, including 3 tie dyed silk sets! Xavier also shared a few new moves and techniques. What a giving, loving man he is! Those sets were a seed to grow flagging in this country.
I since passed one of those silk sets on to Rob who left us on the 25th Feb to study for a year in Sydney. As a seed, we hope Rob spreads the love of flagging around Sydney with those flags!
I'm sure he will inspire any closet flaggers over there to learn more of the craft and connect with the greater worldwide flagging network via http://www.flagmania.org/ or http://www.flaggercentral.com/
We also lost another new member, Nick C to Sydney to live so we hope Rob and Nick C connect for some flagging over there!
Flagmania will be concentrating on tiedye experimentation and running a more relaxed home based socialising approach with less bookings for gigs initially, to boost numbers.
Eventually we aim to inspire the birth of troupes in each State of Australia to promote flagging in Australia, providing a great positive, healthy way for men to meet, exercise, socialise and inspire each other and those who watch them!
What the world needs now is love sweet love. Spread the flagging love guys!

Flagmania takes over the Sleaze Ball 2006 Podiums!

Once again Flagmania dived in to a new experience in podium dancing for our cities Sleaze Ball Party 2006. We really had a great time dressing up in our own ideas of fantasy and making and performing with our bright white fluorescent flags! We performed on stage, and also on 4 other podiums around the venue for about 5 x 20min sets. Lots of fun, pics and positive feedback! We hope we made people feel excited and happy at this event!
However, silly me got a bit distracted by the intensity of the moment, and forgetting to pay attention to the bounds of the 1m high podium box, unexpectedly slipped off in a flurry of flags, hitting the ground with cracking great force onto my left foot in a screaming heap on the floor!! Eventually laughing embarrassingly amidst the throng that ran to my rescue, I had to get assisted to the first aid room for bandaging a suspected damaged or broken ankle/foot/leg! Next I was whisked off to the Adelaide Hospital by a very generous Wayne (thanks Wayne!), with my concerned partner Troy in tow, only to wait for hours in Emergency to be told that under the massive swelling I had damaged tendons amidst some scrapes and bruises (and slightly bruised ego) and that I would need annoying crutches for 2 weeks at least! Drama drama! Ah the life of the flagger! These things happen I suppose!

11 November 2006. Pride March and Show - Flagmania's first year anniversary!

We had a ball this past weekend! Yes we were blown away by the reaction of our community to our performances. We just dove in there and led this years Pride March as energetically and as passionately as we could. We had rehearsed for months for this day and it really paid off. The adrenilin running through our viens was electric! There were many more people lining the streets this year and we just kept those hands in the air flagging through the arm pain!At the end of the march we then spontaniously just flagged everyone into the party area at Fowlers Live on North Terrace in Adelaide city. Pics here. We just kept flagging to the theme music which just kept repeating from the lead trucks sound system. The smiles on everyones faces told the story. Lots of screams and claps and whistles! Then Nick, Wayne and Patrick performed with Candy Chambers (aka Jamie our choreographer) and her dancers for one of her songs called 'Spinning Wheel'. It was tight, fun and electric! Candy was so hot! Then at the very end of the show with still a packed house, the whole Flagmania team performed a stage version of their march number "Things Can Only Get Better" which ended up a wild hands in the air escalation of pure energy! We will never forget the screams and the applause and the shining happy elated afaces of the audience! Thank you Adelaide! If you took pics or movies on the night PLEASE MMS them to me 0403313545 or email to webmaster@flagmania.org so we can add them to our gallery.
